Audio Unlimited SPK-VELO-001

Audio Unlimited Wireless Speakers with RemoteIf extending your music throughout your house and even outside appeals to you then you just might find the Audio Unlimited SPK-VELO-001 wireless speakers are just what you are looking for.  These little black speakers are made to be versatile and the options you have available for incorporating them into your home sound system are numerous.  They are small, only about ten inches high and five inches wide, so you can place them just about anywhere you’d like and carry them from one room to another as you go through the day’s activities.  You can power the speakers with 12 C-cell batteries or if you don’t need that much portability you can simply plug them in with the AC adapter cord.   They are also made to be waterproof so you can even use these wireless speakers outdoors.  The standard configuration when you purchase the system is a transmitter, two speakers, and a remote control.

The sound quality from the speakers is good as a result of the 10 watts of power pushed through a three inch woofer and two inch tweeter inside each speaker.  Each speaker has its own volume control which can be a blessing or a curse depending on how you plan to use the speakers.  If they will be in different rooms then having individual volume control per speaker is the perfect solution.  However, if you want to use them in the same room or area then you will have to adjust the volume up or down on each one which could be a hassle.  The remote control helps some in this area and it includes a power, autotune, and volume control option to keep you from making the trip over to the speakers wherever they are.  This is especially handy if you have wall mounted the speakers which is possible with the SPK-VELO-001.  One small irritant when it comes to the remote control however is that it will not power on the speakers if they are off.  You have to first power up the speakers for the remote control functions to work, but it will power the speakers off.

The transmitter for this wireless system operates at 900 MHZ and is rated for a maximum of about 150 feet of range.  It is powered by an AC adapter cord and like most wireless transmitters you connect it to your sound system or MP3 player using a 3.5mm headphone type connector or you can use an adapter to connect via RCA cables.  The entire system is designed to use Phase Loop Lock circuitry which attempts to achieve the cleanest wireless connection possible between the transmitter and the speakers.  You can even expand beyond the initial two speakers that come with the system and add more individual speakers which are usually listed as SPK-VELO-002 for their part number.  These speakers are also sometimes branded under the name Cables Unlimited or Velocity.

If you are planning on using these speakers for the rear speakers in a surround sound configuration you may want to consider a couple of issues.  First, the transmitter will stop transmitting sound to the wireless speakers if it detects no sound which means it may drop sound just because their is no signal going to the rear speakers at a particular moment.  The speakers also do not work in stereo meaning that you can’t designate one as a left channel and the other as a right channel.  You might have to get creative with your setup if you really want to use these in a surround sound setup.
