Bose SL2

Bose SL2 Wireless Surround LinkThe Bose SL2 Wireless Surround Link does one thing and does it very well. It enables you to have rear surround speakers for your home theater system without having to run unsightly wires from your main system to the surround speakers. The SL2 system consists of a transmitter and a receiver and is designed to work with 5.1 surround Bose Lifestyle and Acoustimass systems.

You plug in the transmitter to your primary system using left and right speaker wires just as you would if you were running actual cable back to the speakers. In this case however you are just connecting the wires up to the transmitter which is located right next to your primary Bose system. Your rear surround speakers plug into the receiver unit directly and you can set them up anywhere within about a thirty foot distance from the transmitter. The AL8 wireless solution operates in the 5.8GHZ band which means you could have a cordless phone in that range that might interfere but the Bose design seeks to minimize any potential interference to keep the sound pure without pops or hissing.

Despite the fact that the overall setup of the SL2 wireless surround link involves several wires the key is that the most annoying wires, the ones from the front to the rear, are no longer needed. The transmitter and receiver must plug in to a wall outlet, speaker wire is required to connect the transmitter to your system, and speaker wire is required to connect your rear speakers to the receiver. All of the connections are color coded which makes setup painless. The SL2 is one of, if not the best, wireless rear speaker solutions you will find in terms of performance. The only downside is that it requires a Bose system so you’ll have to look elsewhere if your home theater setup is not Bose.
