Your guests will think you have a strobe light sitting on your patio but it is actually the novel pivoting Sharper Image 115BMS wireless speaker. The pivoting feature is a unique characteristic for a wireless speaker and it allows you to rotate the speaker in its stand up to 180 degrees. This nifty little feature means you can adjust the broadcast of your music towards the direction you’d like without moving the entire speaker. There is a built-in carry handle and if you choose to use battery power (8 D cell batteries) it makes things ultra-portable. Inside the speaker are two 1 1/4 inch tweeters and a 4 inch subwoofer. The total output wattage for the 115BMS is 10 watts which makes it a little underpowered.
The transmitter for the Sharper Image LP 115BMS is small and includes a retractable antenna on top. Wireless range for the system tops out at 100 feet and if there are walls/windows/floors between the transmitter and speakers you can expect less. You have the option of plugging the transmitter into the wall or it will run on 6 AA batteries which comes in handy if you want to hook up your MP3 player, the transmitter, and the speakers without needing a wall outlet. Interestingly, you can bypass the transmitter altogether if you wanted and plug your MP3 directly into the speaker using a line-in jack on the speaker itself.
You should expect only average sound quality from this wireless speaker but the price level of the speaker is on the lower end so you get a lot of form and function at a reasonable value. One other item worthy of note is that there is another speaker system with the exact specs and look of the LP 115BMS sometimes manufactured under the “Shift 3” brand name.
