The SRS-RF930RK wireless speaker system from Sony is a portable, rechargeable option for listening to sound anywhere you want it. The built-in rechargeable Ni-MH battery adds an extra level of convenience to this wireless speaker solution because you can simply dock the speaker bar in with the included transmitter and it will charge the battery for you.
On a full charge you can expect to get about fourteen hours of usage before you need to dock the speaker bar. It can take up to sixteen hours to recharge once you have fully drained the batteries. If Sony had included an AC adapter so that you could plug the speakers into a standard wall outlet instead of docking them back on the transmitter it would have been a nice touch just so you could leave them wherever you were using them.
The transmitter is mostly flat and square shaped with a small antenna attached. It broadcasts your music or television audio using a 900 MHZ wireless connection. The farthest distance you can expect to get between speaker bar and transmitter is 150 feet. There are three channels available that you can select if you are getting any interference from other wireless devices already in your home. There is also a manual tuning dial for doing more precise adjustments in order to get the clearest signal possible. There are two inputs available on the transmitter for you to connect your audio device or TV using a standard 3.5m stereo jack. You even have the option of directly connecting to the speakers and bypassing the wireless transmitter if you just want to hook up some external speakers to your iPod or other MP3 player.
With only 2 watts of total power you won’t be using this speaker system at the next block party but it works great for adding external sound to your iPod or even for the hard of hearing to get better sound from the TV. The speaker bar is magnetically shielded so it should not cause magnetic interference if placed near a TV or monitor. Sony designed the SRS-RF9304K wireless speaker system with TV usage in mind as well by adding a noise filter switch to the transmitter in case you connect it to your television’s headphone jack. You should only activate the noise filter in this scenario however because it will impact the volume level if you turn it on otherwise.
